Amazed by Jesus
29 Jesus left there and went along the Sea of Galilee. Then he went up on a mountainside and sat down. 30 Great crowds came to him, bringing the lame, the blind, the crippled, the mute and many others, and laid them at his feet; and he healed them. 31 The people were amazed when they saw the mute speaking, the crippled made well, the lame walking and the blind seeing. And they praised the God of Israel. ― Matthew 15:29-31
There are approximately 17 times in the Gospel accounts of Jesus’ life and ministry in which the people were described as being amazed at Jesus’ teaching. This is true whether the audience was a group of Pharisees and other religious leaders, governors, prelates or other political leaders or the multitudes of the common people who followed Jesus.
People were also predictably amazed by the miracles He performed in which He demonstrated His power and mastery over nature, illness, disease, physical impairment, demonic forces . . . and ultimately over His own death.
Throughout this month as we prepare our hearts for Thanksgiving, we will be identifying and talking about the people who were amazed by Jesus as they experienced Him personally. I hope to see you each Sunday morning. . . and be sure to invite a friend to come with you.
